The CMI (Carmelites of Mary  Immaculate) legacy is a multifaceted narrative of true pedagogical transfer of knowledge, didactic innovations and profound philanthropy founded and shaped by St. Kuriakose Elias Chavara and persevered to its present-day success by the CMI clergy.                          

Pioneering India’s educational and social bases, the historic ‘ Pallikodam Movement ‘ initiated by St. Chavara in Kerala has led to the creation of 510 Schools, 1 University, 2 Medical Colleges, 2 Engineering Colleges, 17 University Colleges, 9 B.Ed Colleges, 48 Hospitals and Dispensaries, 129 social services and rural development centres, 1 science research centre, 16 printing houses and publications, 13 periodicals, 1 daily newspaper and numerous charitable institutions.                  

As a Christian Catholic congregation, the CMI congregation strives and continues to shape the educational development of those in pursuit of knowledge, provides aid during crises and shape society through pedagogical instructions and charitable support. 

The Chavara Mount Public School at Thudanganad, Muttom, an institution firmly rooted in CMI ideals, carries forward the CMI legacy into the future.
